Privacy Regulations

It's the era of information privacy in Canada. As of January 4, 2004, all commercial activity in Canada is subject to federal legislation which establishes standards for the collection, use, disclosure, retention and security of personal information. Similar legislation is in effect in a number of provincial jurisdictions and applies to both commercial and not-for profit undertakings.

CRSTL's Privacy Module has been designed to help Canadian companies comply with the new privacy laws and the requirements of the various privacy commissioners by ensuring that each employee in your organization who is subject to these laws meets the full range of current federal and provincial privacy obligations including:

  • The Protection of Personal Information and Electronics Documents Act (PIPEDA);
  • The Québec Act Respecting the Protection of Personal Information in the Private Sector;
  • The Alberta Personal Information Protection Act; and
  • The British Columbia Personal Information Protection Act.

Our Privacy Module also provides a summary of best practices and guidance from published speeches, bulletins and decisions of the various privacy commissions.
